You have come to the right place! Amigos de las Américas (AMIGOS) is an international, not-for-profit organization with more than 30 chapters across the U.S. that provides unparalleled leadership and community service opportunities for young people while concurrently contributing to the well-being of hundreds of communities throughout the Americas.

Since its founding in 1965, more than 20,000 high school and college-age students have served as AMIGOS Volunteers.  Through their training and service experience they gain life-changing insights about other cultures, effective civic engagement and their personal potential.

I wonder what's so funny?

AMIGOS gives young people an extraordinary opportunity to rise to the challenge of independently managing great responsibility within multicultural settings. Extensive training programs teach youth valuable skills to foster sustainable community improvements.

Every year our volunteers spend five to eight weeks in a host country working on different public service projects. In the summer of 2009, we anticipate that our volunteers will live and work in Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama and Paraguay. Throughout the school year, the New York CIty Chapter prepares its members for their Latin America experiences through training in cross-cultural sensitivity, networking, technical skills, personal health & safety, and the culture of Latin America. In June, our chapter volunteers travel to their assigned countries. Once in country, they join with volunteers from other chapters throughout the United States. Volunteers are then placed, in partnerships of two to four, in rural or semi-rural communities to live for the summer. Please visit the Amigos International Website for additional information about specific projects.

To apply through our chapter or for additional information, please contact us.

We are now recruiting for 2010 volunteers!
